The "Fort"

The Fort as photographed by Viking. In this image, there appears to be an enclosed "courtyard."

The Fort as photographed by the Mars Global Surveyor, revealing the "courtyard" to be a shadow. However, three-dimensional views (below) reveal a sunken area almost as strange.

This anomalous "tube" appears to tunnel into Fort's "platform."

This teardrop-shaped feature runs parallel with the Fort's eastern "wall" and shows intriguing internal shape.

The dissolve on the left shows the Fort increasing from Viking resolution to MGS resolution. On the right, the Fort can be seen rotating, as if seen from the air (note geometry of base "platform" and sunken portion suggestive of possible structural decay). Both graphics courtesy Mark Carlotto.
